New Construction

3 Towles Crossing, Opti Isle, SC

Current Phase: Construction Documents

The Owners of 3 Towles Crossing requested a design that would provide living space for four generations. The new house includes living spaces for our clients, her mother and grandmother, and their teenager daughter. It needed to be handicap accessible and provide privacy for the multi-generational family. The large family requested an expansive Great Room that was flooded with light and direct access to the rear porch. The home needed to be raised to meet FEMA and hurricane requirements. To meet all the design requests, Clark-Glidewell Architect designed one house, with two living spaces, connected by a common space containing the elevator and laundry room. The entire house is a mere 2800 SF but appears larger because a majority of living space is on the first floor. Light floods down to the Great Room through a cupola. With privacy towards the street and openness to the spectacular rear view, this house is bringing all generations together to honor family while also providing privacy and dignity.

Renovation/Restoration

223 Nassau Street, Downtown Charleston, SC: Before

Current Phase: Construction

This small Charleston Single built in 1910 is located in a neighborhood that is seeing major revitalization. Location on high ground, without flooding, is a huge plus for historic homes in today’s low-country climate. Keeping these small historic structures, built by African Americans, is also very important to the historic fabric of the city. Even through this property is located outside of the BAR purview, the owners decided to restore the house instead of demolition. Our clients purchased 223 Nassau Street in terrible condition: windows missing, siding weather worn, piazzas modified and a place for homeless to sleep. And to make it even more difficult, a previous contractor started an unacceptable renovation. Clark-Glidewell Architect designed a Bedroom, 3 1/2 Bath home with a wonderful Living Room and Kitchen within the original 1910 structure. The historic fireplaces are being restored, exposing the masonry and tuck-pointing with historic mortar. Half of the second floor is the Master Bedroom suite, including a Master Bath boasting one of the renovated fireplaces. The exterior is to be restored as close as possible to the original floor plan. The front piazza on both levels are being restored along with original details, such as the metal window hoods.

New Construction

Hollywood Farmhouse, SC

Current Phase: Design

A custom modern farmhouse situated on a large piece of land in Hollywood, SC. Our clients are looking for an open floor concept but with a traditional aspect. This 4 Bedroom, 4 1/2 Bath home showcases a fireplace flanked by expansive windows overlooking a pine forest. An open floor plan with kitchen, dining, and living. Two separate Bedroom suites, along each side of the central living, create a large outdoor deck with access to the screen porch. A two and a half car garage is connected to the main house with a vine covered trellis connecting to the large mud room. Using simple, natural material, both inside and outside, provide historic farmhouse charm. A piece of property without flood issues is prime real estate in the low country. After a long day at work, the home owners get to drive up to the custom designed home they always envisioned. Additional outbuildings will be built in the future, such as a working barn and a guest cottage.
